PEACE ADVOCACY

As a Peace Missionary, advocating for peace means speaking, negotiating, interacting with individual personalities, institutions, agencies, corporate bodies, communities, governments, leaders, formal and informal groups with objective of striking an even balance between contending forces so as to bring them to a state of calm orderliness.

This function of advocating for peace is for me, a peace missionary, an essential in the following circumstances

A child/ youth that is sexually molested by family relation, priest, teacher, friend, stranger
  • is shy or scared, for any reason, to speak about it or report the act.
  • has spoken up or reported it but nobody seams to do anything about it or have brought the offender to law., for any reason.
An innocent person who is cajoled / intimidated into a police cell or prison
  • Without a fair hearing
  • By misjudgement of a court
A physically challenged person or a culturally disadvantaged person
  •  whose right is being stepped upon
  • whose life / just aspirations is begin oppressed
An isolated ideology, group,community,culture that is deliberately or systematically destroying the civil existence of any society.

An organization / company that is by its operations deliberately or systematically destroying the civil existence or livelihood of a people, culture.

A government / authority actively or passively using its powers to suppress the civil right or existence of a people, culture,

Striking an even balance in any of these circumstance can mean
  • bringing the odds to a justifiable state
  • bringing the odds to a commendable state
  • bringing the odds to a point of mutual understanding and acceptance.
It is paramount to note that this work of peace advocacy basically requires a passionate interest / commitment of a peace missionary who can only operate within the limits of his resources.

POWER IS EVIDENT FOR PEACE

 AT PEACE , ITS NOT ABOUT ELIMINATING THE UNKIND ELEMENTS
ITS RATHER MORE OF KEEPING THE UNKIND FROM BEING UNKIND
...................................................................................................

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.

The cow and the bear shall graze;
Their young ones shall lie down together;
And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

 The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole,
And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.

 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,

 ..PEACE CAN ALSO BE LIKENED TO A SPORT TOURNAMENT; LOSERS GO HOME MOURNING AND WINNERS GO HOME REJOICING WITH A RICH REWARD BUT EITHER WAY NO ONE IS BURNT, YES NO ONE IS BURNT BECAUSE THEIR IS A FIRM HOLD THAT, IN SPORT SET, EFFECTIVELY KEEPS INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPANTS FROM FALLING OFF SOME GIVEN LINES..

JUSTICE AS OBJECT OF PEACE

JUSTICE IS ALL ABOUT STRIKING A FAIR BALANCE AMONG CONTENDING ODDS.

To execute justice one needs to;

- CLEARLY IDENTIFY EACH AND EVERY EXISTING ODD

-CLEARLY IDENTIFY THE DIVIDE BETWEEN EACH ODD AND OTHERS

-UNDERSTANDABLY DECIDE ON A DEFINED BRIDGE THAT CUTS ACROSS EACH AND EVERY ODD AND SEALS THE DIVIDE ADEQUATELY ENOUGH TO OVERRIDE ITS EXISTENCE.

THE ODDS CAN BE ISSUES, INDIVIDUALS, ENVIRONMENTS, COMMUNITIES, ELEMENTS,ENTITIES ETC,
THE ODDS HAS TO BE MORE THAN ONE AND USUALY THEY ARE MANY.

WHEN THE DIVIDE AMONG THE ODDS IS ADEQUATELY SEALED, THEN JUSTICE HAS BEEN EXECUTED.
WHEN JUSTICE IS DONE THEN PEACE IS SURE.

The history of Wurewane kindred spans 640 years and in many of this period, they have existed as a town, until a season came that two potential Royal families wanted at all cost to place their son as the next king. Both families are equally eligible to do so and none is ready to give up the opportunity at any cost. Hence, they threw the entire town into a fighting rampage and eventually divided it with Wane at far North and Wure at far South. This ended the physical battles but started a new war- stiff envy for the success/Development of each other.

Wure are more educated and as such have Academicians, Engineers, Architects, Scientist, Layers  and professional in many fields of study and are more developed while the Wane are more inclined to the force and so have many Army Generals, Intelligence officers, Police chiefs and are also developed to some extent.
Wure town elders invited the sitting Police chief, a native of another land altogether to discuss the issue on ground and request for a thorough Investigation. They invited Wane town elders but they did not honour the invitation, they were busy with the burial of their illustrious son who was found dead at the highway of Wure town. The youths of Wane town even though they heard that the police is Investigating the case, their arrogance refused to be contained, therefore they spit it out on Wure town by murdering three of their women and the children they are carrying as they were coming back from the market at night and to add more grease to their evil, they took the bodies and dumped it by night at Wure highway.

The Wure’s broke out in heated outrage, matched by night to the central habitat at the border of both towns and slaughtered fifteen Wane Indigenes. Meanwhile, the government was at a great disarray on what to do – ‘use the force and the Wure will attack you politically for supporting the Wane, Don’t use the force, Bloodshed continues’.

At the Hills of Wane town, at the outskirt of the town, is a multinational research Institute and Quarry Company. Their staff came from Wure and Wane town respectively. But the company became grounded immediately the fighting heated up. The company therefore needed to act fast. Hence, they engage the service of the Federal Intelligence, complete strangers to both towns. By the craft of Federal Intelligence and the Quarry company, Zelon Associates a new firm came to Wane and Wure town and settled at the central habitat and they pretended not knowing about the fight. “They are here to build estate at Wane town using Wure professionals and to engage Wane youths in the security of the place”. Zelon Associates was very busy meeting the elders in the two town, completely ignoring the fighting and stories about it but rather had much interest in showing the Wure’s and the Wane’s that they have big money bags and are very much ready to spend it on them.

Surprisingly, Don Cloud of Wure and Dante of Wane were found dead on the streets leading to each one’s house the same day. Both are the Arrow heads of the fighting in both communities. While there was suspicion and silence in both towns as to why these two died and who killed them, Zelon invited elders and youths of both town for a high party, insisting that agreement has been reached. Hence, both parties came to see the agreement and at their amazement, Zelon Associates has written an agreement that warmly serves both interests. At the party, Zelon also endeavored to give them cash gifts as they went on reassuring them of its readiness to spend and satisfy them. Everybody was very skeptical of Zelon Associates and its kindness, but no one could dare challenge the fact that ‘making Zelon money has suddenly replaced the envious rift among the two parties’.

After few years of operation, Zelon Associate disintegrated to a company with nine branches scattered among Wure and Wane town. Because the Zelon staffs are everywhere the company is all through both towns, Zelon mixed up the citizens of both communities so well that intermarriages and joint town meetings became essentials and finally sealed up the Divide.

Zero Estate and Capital Properties are top real estate firms in Mckview city – “a strong city for strong men that do strong things”. Both firms are very rich and comfortable. Both firms are faithful and high tax payers. Both firms are equally the real sponsors of the government in power and in this city, you don’t bite the hand that fed you be you a politician, force person, corporate executive, employee or a street soldier.
Street Ten is the longest, busiest place in Mckview city. Every company will do whatever they can to pitch their tenet at street Ten and if you do so you are sure to find out that its most worth it. Maskete Corporations wants to sell one of her two properties at street Ten and use the money to widened her base at the international market. Maskete Corporation will not sell to the highest bidder, No you dare not do such things or you wake up and find your office burnt down next day. You sell to the strongest bidder that meets your price. As faith would have it, two strong Bulls are highly interested this time.

Zero Estate and Capital Properties are in for real and as a result of this, tensions went high in the city. Street deaths rose to a glaring 73% within  a week, Harsh words are exchanged here and there by executives and shareholders of the two Rottweiler. This property alone has the capacity of boosting each firms profit a Hundred to two hundred percent over. Everywhere in the city and much more on Street Ten, street soldiers are marched out obviously with their metal dangling at their waste or strapped under their jackets waiting for the slightest provocation to fire. As for the police, you dare not move a muscle or else you will come back home and find your wife, children and parents dead and burnt naked.

Maskete Corporations wants to sell and must sell but if they suddenly don’t want to sell, that is an act of war by interpretation of the street code order. Zero estate and Capital Properties will have no option but to wage the war against Maskete then. But Maskete would not do such things and in selling the property their hands are tied as to who they will sell to: - “will you sell to Dark Dog or to Dirty Dog”. Meanwhile street Ten is busy drinking more and more blood and lives are wasted, properties burnt all in a bid for each firm to intimidate the other and get them to surrender. But nobody wants to bow.
As the night refuse to part but lingered with time more and more, the government got to their heels and acted decisively through the Revenue Service. Quickly, the government indicted Maskete Corporation for tax fraud, but made no arrests, Instead they took over the property calling it a “fair bargain” for the tax not paid by Maskete. Also, they strongly refused to sell the property and made it a public by word that “government is not interested any bit in selling street Ten, 24 property to anyone. Underneath the surface, the government invited Maskete Corporations and paid them for the property with an incentive of a conditional 5% tax waiver for a month to make up for damages on their reputation.

On the property, “FOREST ZONE: A 56 High rise building estate with the least building being 35 stories tall and all are fully occupied except the Maskete Admin office building”- The government converted it to a public property and invited Zero estate and Capital Properties to buy shares in it. This they warmly accepted and each owned 29% shares.

TANGENT ON TIME 1 - STORY

The dawn is very bright and bustling with life. Trees, birds, man and the earth were in Awe at the cool summon of a calm weather tickled by the Rising Sun after a Night of heavy down pour. Sani lost touch of all these, as he was clinching tightly on a bar of his prison cell door, Sobbing variously at the turn out of his life.
He grew up not knowing father or mother, as an outcast in the Northern part of Nigeria generally known as “Almajiri”, born by legitimate but timid parents who threw their blessing back to earth when the boy is but below five. This left the boy wondering about and then in the process learns from experience of life as he struggle to survive. Hence, these boys grew together begging for alms on the street, stealing and became very handy instruments for terrorist gangs to recruit and breed into suicide bombing, maiming human beings in a quest to please a so called divine existence who rewards them at death with luxury and 21 virgins.
Sani missed joining this gang and saw it as a great opportunity lost. He lost it because when the offer came for his circle of friends/brothers, he was out there begging for alms to feed for the day. It is the same day that he lost one of his limb after stealing money from the pocket of Alhaji Ibrahim, who quickly found out and in a blaze of anger his boys ran after Sani(caught him) and before the sun will go down for the day he has been judged by a sharia court and the verdict was to cut off one of his limb immediately.

Many days after Sani recovered from bleeding, grace beckoned on him to meet Peter who introduced him to Alhaji Below, a rich trader. Alhaji Bello wanted to help Sani but he couldn’t as Sani failed to become Mr. Bello Sales boy at Mr. Bellow Beans shop due to handicap and low self-esteem. And also he failed to become one of Mr. Bellow’s keke (tricycle) transport drivers due to insecurity and lack of confidence.
After loosing his limb, Sani attempted to do some mean jobs like becoming a Mason, learning carpentry, serving as an apprentice in a mechanic shop but each time he ended up again and again fighting with co-workers and being thrown out as the villain, trouble maker, empty headed, dull dump fool.
Sani’s desperation to survive and live as a 22 year old boy led him to Mishaps. At the mechanic shop he found much favor in the eye of one Mrs. Tracy who always wanted Sani to check he car and find what is wrong with it. It was clear to every eye that she had plans to help Sani but all that packed up when Sani mischievously removed her new car battery and sold it to a nearby buyer and then replaced it with a fairly used one. But fate will not let him scale through that as the plot leaked and even though Mrs . Tracy refused to punish Sani yet she withdraw all her favor and plans to help him.
After Sani was sacked from the Mechanic shop, it was not long that he met Amina, young pretty 13year old hawking sachet water on the street and generating some money for her parents. Sani loved Amina and she in turn found him very interesting. Because Amina is so charming, a lot of people after buying sachet water would leave the balance for her just to render her a little help. One day, after Amina finished her business for the day as usual, she went to see Sani to give him N100 from her excess and then said bye. But surprisingly, Sani was a little moody today. Amina as at other times tried to play with Sani, but that day their play gradually graduated to cuddling and the cuddling cunningly confined itself to sex. Amina’s virginity is broken.
Mrs. Salisu though she is illiterate, she is very keen on matters like this. As soon as Amina entered the house, the small hut they lived in, Mrs. Salisu nodded to herself; Surely something has gone wrong, maybe her great fear of which she dutifully hanged on Amina’s neck day after day telling her to keep off has happened. Yes her great fear of which she refused to prevent just because of the petty proceeds of Amina’s daily sales.
Quickly, by aggressive interrogation Mrs. Salisu was able to deduce the truth from Amina. She beckoned on Mr. Salisu her husband, “that Amina has been raped”, ‘a bride that was to be given out next month, to a rich Nigerian Politician’.  Just as the birds were about waking up with the morning the next day, Sani was mobbed into a Police cell from where he finally ended up in prison for “raping Amina, a 13 year old innocent girl”.
Sani have long been forgotten to die in prison. He has spent eight years in prison and today in his deep tears; he patiently waits for a Christian Prison Missionary coming to visit the inmates and give them some aid. Sani needs to confess his burden to someone. On the Arrival of the missionaries, Sani thoughtfully identified their leader, went straight to him and rolled out the menace of his life to him.
Fortunately, the Missionary in their capacity reopened the case and few months later Sani got out of prison. Under the missionary, Sani learnt shoe making, Got an artificial limb, excelled in his business and ended up winning “Best Designers Award” in a state sponsored Fashion Fair.

Inspector hills got up, picked up his uniform and dressed neatly, a delight of his heart”. He then sat down and carefully watched his bed pray whom, in his words, he has sufficiently swayed a sexual swoop. He licked his lips in satisfaction confident that the seventeen year “pretty fun” as he fondly refers to ladies, is by all indications a retard. She ran to him as he was driving pass the street at close of duty today. Seeing her, he slowed down the more and as she went straight to open the door and came in, he stopped picked her and drove onward slowly, perceiving that she is no threat at all.

He tried to find out from her what there i problem. But she just kept weeping, lamenting, murmuring. It was so obvious from her actions that she is a retard, quite young, fresh, and sweet. Unfortunately, inspector Hills eyes dos not let go of anything under the skirt. In order not to attract eye brows, inspector Hills calmed her down and quietly drove her to his apartment. Now that he has swaggered the swoop, it’s time to find out why she was lamenting. So he pinched her and got her sitting.

Miss Emily fell from an orange tree at five and months later, her parent gradually accepted the fact that she has turned retard despite all medical care she received. Her mom is CEO of a flourishing, highly rated Currier firm and the Dad owns and runs a five star hotel- His customers of mainly politicians, gamblers, spiritualists and human traffickers. He knows about this but then it’s a secret worth keeping because money is flowing heavily to him. One day Mr. Rodrigo Adams came back 11pm as usual and found his wife lying down but looking somehow pale, something is different about her. He exclaimed. “Honey am back, How do you do”. But she is still sleeping and refused to answer him. He then went close to wake her up and as he touched her, she is cold. Mrs. Adams “took in some tablets and got herself gone with the wind” long before her husband arrived.

 For a long while Mr. Adams and his daughter has been getting along somehow until one night that he came back and suddenly as he was about to rest, “he discovered that his genitals would no longer contain in his pants”. At the other room, lay Miss Emily, “Sweet little girl, sure a retard but her curves refuse to be retard and her breast is ever inviting.” Then he thought over it again – “what an opportunity to take, nobody to question him or her, surely she is a consolation from her late wife to him, and he gave birth to her so she is his property, then she is retard and certainly would not say a thing to defend herself. Oh, he thought to himself, what a pity, but then lets pop the cork and take a sip, after all just one night will not cause any harm”. So he took off straight away and into his 14 year old girl child, without resistance the deal got done. He has heard stories of parents that did similar thing but he was so sure his own will not turn out bad. Surprisingly, to him one night become nights of days and days become weeks, weeks to months and months ended years yet the deal has not stopped. He is still juggling and his daughter is still retard and getting along in the ride with him.

Inspector Hills suddenly become infuriated over “the poor little thing” before him as she motioned her fingers and giggled over and over “Father, me, rape, many days, many months, many years, non stop”. Quickly, to cover his own sins, inspector Hills scolded her never to say such things to anyone ever, that it is lawfully acceptable and that she should go back home quickly before her father comes back and that if the father comes back, whatever he wants she should keep being a good girl by doing so.

Sometime a Neighbor heard her cry in the night and informed the police. They came, but in the morning, to find out if anything was wrong but she chased them out in anger and called them “busy bodies and pleasure seekers”. Some weeks later on, Mr. Adams died in a ghastly motor accident and was burnt almost beyond recognition. This time as the police came to inform her on the demise of her dad, the officers noted that she is retard and Miss Emily was quickly relocated to a home and there fate dawned on her as she met Lady Theresa, a nurse who took particular interest on her as she resembled her own daughter very much.

Due to Mrs. Theresa’s unrelenting care and much love, Emily recovered reasonably in few years and she was discharged. Instead of embracing the much wealth that was readily waiting for her, she rather followed her passion and got a job and taught nursery school pupils. Now 20 years afterward, Emily has long retired, opened her own school and is happily married to the love of her life. TCV
